banshee shows music files but files are empty


Can anyone help me restore my music files.When I look in media, the ipod folders are presant but empty. How can I resore these files?

I battled my son's new Ipod Classic using Mint 17 for hours with no success. When I unplugged the Ipod, it reset itself to an empty state. I finally put Windows and Itunes on his computer and he manages it from there. Yes, I read that Banshee would work but it seems Apple closes the door pretty quickly...
