bad superblock
 

I'm running Mint 17 Mate on an Intel I7 machine, 3 physical drives, 2 HDs & 1 SSD. I was learning to use the virtual terminal & couldn't escape from it, & ultimately rebooted only to find myself back in the same place. I'm not sure what all I did, but after booting it wouldn't respond at all to the keyboard. Eventually I tried to get rid of the partition on that drive which I didn't know was essential. So, when I boot from the liveDVD Mint, I can see the system files on that drive, but my personal files are completely absent; the home folder is empty. gparted shows the drive as almost empty whereas it was nearly full. It makes no sense to me that the system files are there but my files are gone.

Are you looking at the files on your system or the files on the live CD?

Can you boot from disk?
If so, what do you see?

If you try to delete partitions you will lose your data.

Well, the bad superblock was on a different drive. I didn't realize that when I posted that. But I did delete the first small partition on the drive that held my data. I had nearly a full drive of personal stuff along with a Mint install, now the Mint files look like they're still there, but my home folder on that drive is empty.
