Bad page state at prep_new_page

Hello all!

Messing around with my new machine again, and I have run into a problem. The box locks up , the keyboard and mouse freeze. I can't get ctrl-alt-(f2-f8) to work, the number lock caps lock scroll lock are all stuck. I haven't been able to keep thje box alive for more than 24 hours so far. I am ssh'd into the box, and I just saw this output -

Code:
jim@jimdesk:~$ uptime

Trying to fix it up, but a reboot is needed
Nothing was going on when this happened. I have x-windows running, and only a terminal and firefox running. Firefox was probably displaying yahoo's homepage. Xscreensaver was running as well.

I looked through the search utility here, and this error came up once, and was blamed on bad RAM. That may be the case, but I hope not.

This is on a box running debian testing, with a custom built 2.6.12-4 kernel.

Peace,
JimBass

it has been my experience that kernel crashes are rarely actually kernel problems
but to accomodate whatever actually caused it try increasing
/proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes by a factor of two or four
and see if that helps

mainly you need to figure out what process 'circuit' is ???
TCAD ??
i don't have a clue

anybody else know what process 'circuit' is ?

Thanks for the suggestion. I increased /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes from 3547 to 14188. I was wondering what circuit was too, and the error came up again, so I know what it is now. It is the xscreensaver program. Circuit is the name of one of the screensavers I use, and the next time it crashed I saw the same error as with circuit, but this time it was from dangerball, which I know is an xscreensaver -

Code:
Bad page state at prep_new_page (in process 'dangerball', page ffff8100015e7158)flags:0x20000004 mapping:0000000000000000 mapcount:-268435456 count:0
I did a successful install of Nvidia drivers for x86_64 on amd, and have all the modules loading correctly, but it does appear that there is some problem with the xscreensaver program, unless that min_free_kbytes thing takes care of it.

Thanks for the help so far, and I hope your previous suggestion fixes this completely!

Peace,
JimBass
