backups

hi everyone,
how do i go about backing up our system? i'm rather new at this and i want to have our work on one computer stored safely in another. At the moment i've only managed to scp everything over but you can see how this isn't going to work in the long run. any ideas?

thanks

There are a lot of options ...
I have been looking into mkCDrec for doing fullback ups. (http://mkcdrec.ota.be/) I also bought O'Reilly's Unix Backup & Recovery it pointed me to this site (http://www.backupcentral.com/free-backup-software2.html) There is a lot of software out there so you have to be clear about what you are going to backup. Do you want to be able to do bare-metal restores from you backups or are you just backing up data? What do you want to store you backups on? CD-ROMs, tapes, or hard drives?

There is rsync. It copies and verifies using md5sum to make sure the copy was successful. rsync can use ssh or other kinds of protocols.

Also, I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard good things about Mondo.
