backup recovery

I am using a tool Acronis to make a backup image of my server in case of disaster. while installing the tool i got a error message
Failed to find kernel source directory
'/lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/build'
the sources of your kernel or the kernel headers require installing for more information refer to http://kb.acronis.com/content/1556

i went through the above site but could not understand how its to be done

can anyone help me , also if there is a better software than this which is simple to install and use please update me

thanks a lot

Hi!

Kernel source is required for compilation and setup of Acronis Tool on machine and it seems that the required kernel source is not available at '/lib/modules/2.6.18-164.el5/build' which should be a symbolic link to ../../../usr/src/kernels/2.6.18-164.el5...

Check if the symbolic link exists and it points to right folder on the system and if kernel source doesn't exist on the system then follow following link to setup kernel source on your system:

https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb...topic_id=22546

Once the Kernel source is available on right location then retry installation and setup of Acronis Tool.

Thanks

hmm no one out there with this problem
ok i got the solution to it
first i checked 3 files
1- fstab replace labels with the actual mount points
2- grub.conf
3- inittab check the runlevel

then i removed the kernel using
#yum remove kernel
and then reinstalled it

the reason i did it was because the kernel was compiled for a IDE drive and i restored the image on a sata which was causing the problem i guess
anyways it worked for me .
