Backup program keep

Hi !

I found the backup program Keep. But it will not work.

The program author webbpage doesn't give any guidance.

I get an error message when trying to make a backup. I doesn't understand the message.

Any help would be appreciated.

The error message:

An error occured making /home/thort/Nedladdat/Muspekarteman backup:

I'm not familiar with this specific program.

A general thought though - if you are using a program that demands bulletproof operation (and I consider backups as requiring this), but the program doesn't work and there is no guidance on the author's website, is this program worthy of trust for your precious backups?

I personally don't see the need for fancy backup programs. The standard tar, dd, and rsync all work fine for me. It's much easier to get help using these standard programs than some custom fancy thing that only a few people (relatively speaking) use.

[edit]

Also, consider that if things really go bad your system may not even boot. You want to restore, but your chosen backup program is GUI-only. You might have to reinstall Linux and get X and KDE (used by your program) running first, before you could start restoring. That somewhat defeats the purpose. I'd recommend basic commandline utilities (that's the tar's, dd's, and rsync's, etc.) You could run these in single user mode from a very minimal system, or from a Knoppix LiveCD.
