Backup image with DD

Hi!

At the moment I'm using a dualboot enviroment with Win2000 on hda1 and Slackware on hda5. Is it possible to create a backup of my Win2000 and place the image on another drive for backup. I'v used DD before to create smaller images but none with a size exceeding 700MB. Is DD safe to use to create the image of aprox. 5GB? Would using "dd if=/dev/hda1 of=/hdx/backup.img bs=1 count=1" be sufficient?

TIA

Should be alright, but maybe you should have
a look at partimage ... handles gzip and bzip2
compression for the backed-up partitions, and
comes with several live and rescue CDs.

Cheers,

download this monster:
http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/
and use g4u to do partition backups.

Tinkster: Thanks for the tip. If I find partimage on Knoppix then I'll use it!

Finlay: Thats one wicked disk! Sounds like a must have. Thanks!
