Backup and Recovery Tips
Hello, I was hoping somebody might be able to offer some advice on backup and recovery. We've just started running SuSE Linux (replacing IBM AIX) and this operating system is not supported by our computer operations staff, so it has become my responsibility (I'm a DBA not a Sys. Admin.). I plan to do daily backups to tape using find . piped through to cpio. This will, I believe, backup all file systems including root. My question is, how would I restore this. Would I be correct in saying that I need make bzdisk with cpio copied to it. I can then boot off this and cpio the backup out to the machine? Supposing I accidently deleted all the root file system files, would this still work then? I've probably got completely the wrong idea here, so any advice would be much appreciated.
P.S W'ere running SuSE 7.0 Professional
