You may also want to do a search on this forum's archives. This question is only asked and answered three times a day on this forum.

If you have any questions about Linux you should first do a Google search, then search this forum's archives and if you still do not get an answer then ask a question. The chances of your question being unique are very small.

i used partimage for my full backup of Ubuntu... before i changed to Fedora

it is simple and easy: quick guide

get these:
download partimage http://www.partimage.org/download
get your LIVE CD - i used Ubuntu 8.10 Live CD

1. reboot machine and run Live CD
2. install partimage
3. run it and backup drives or files
[you will copy it into either a location on local drive or another partition or you can copy it onto an external drive]

restoring uses the same process but opting for retore instead of backup

If you're only backing up your data, you can use rsync (which has some trouble in Ubuntu) I wrote a workaround guide:

</shameless plug>
