BackTrack is not searching for any wirless AP.

Hello,

This is my first post in this website.I'm a complete newbie to Linux world.Recently i had this fantasy over cracking wireless encryption.I have setup a router at home and i am trying to crack the password of it.I have a HP G6 laptop with Atheros Wireless.Wireless works fine in windows 7,I have installed backtrack using Virtualbox. When i try to scan of wirless in backtrack nothing comes up.I have checked the settings in virtualbox.I am able to browse the internet when i change settings to ethernet but not with wirless.I hope some experts will help me on fining a solution for this.

Hi,

this is unrelated to linux. The guest operating system in virtualbox does not have access to the underlying hardware, only to the virtual/simulated hardware. If you want access to the wireless device the operating system needs to be installed directly on the bare metal. Note also that backtrack is an obsolete unsupported operating system.

Cheers,

Evo2.

Not sure we should be teaching people how to crack stuff.

The forum rules do not permit questions of dubious legal background; cracking, hacking and the likes are not welcome here.. Feel free to contact the forum admin if you have any questions about this policy.
