Backtrack interface issues

Okay so my interface is wlan0 and before it usto work find I would enter the command airmon-ng then it would show my wlan0 interface. But lately it would sometimes not show it at all and I know for sure that backtrack 3 supports my interface because i tried it before to crack wep networks.

so my question is what is causing this problem to happen?

note*
OS-Windows 7 64 bit
using- VMWare and backtrack 3
wireless adapter - Alfa

thanks

Hello and Welcome to LinuxQuestions,

As always when troubleshooting the first question that comes to mind is:
What have you changed? You mention that it used to work, so what did you do in order to make it fail? Trace back your steps and see if you get an answer.

Kind regards,

Eric

thats just it nothing that would affect the drivers of the wireless adapter.

Hi,

How can you tell for sure? I've never encountered a system that changes things on itself without user intervention. I'm almost sure you've changed something, maybe not directly affecting your wireless adapter and/or its drivers, but most likely indirectly. If you have a snapshot of your virtual machine, one in which the wlan0 works as expected, revert to that and check what's different.

Kind regards,

Eric

Are you running Backtrack live or is it installed?

So that pretty much rules out Backtrack itself, since it is a fresh start every time you start it. The problem is probably in VMWare or possibly the card itself.

Hi,

Good point elliott678! Check your hardware and VMWare for failures/misconfiguration.

Kind regards,

Eric
