Exclamation backtrack instalation . .help


am new to linux . .i need help installing backtrack in an old pc . .i just followed instructions from

remote-exploit.org

i did try fdisk/dev/hda it didnt work but /dev/hdc did work.am stuck at step 9 :Format your first partition.
plz help . .

backtrack doesnt need to be installed. It can be run live off of the cd. What directions are you following exactly. Send the exact link

i cant post the link now ,it says i have to post atleast 3 to insert link. . .but google " backtrack installation " and its the first link that shows up. .i have already installed backtrack on vmware a week ago ..i am having trouble where it says format your first partition , mke2fs /dev/hda1 . .this has worked when the first step was fdisk /dev/hda in vmware .
but in my old pc its fdisk /dev/hdc..

ok i have solved that probem ,changed the hdd configuration to primary master ..but still cant get linux running. when i try startx an error message shows up

XIO: fatal io error 104 (connection reset by peer) on x server ":0.0"
after 0 requests with 0 events remaining. .

i did some configurations with xorgconfig and backtrack cd did boot to kde. .but the mouse pointer doesnt work..its stuck . .plz help .
