BackTrack 4 wireless problem (Intel wifi link 5100 AGN)

Hi everyone,
I am not sure if this belongs in this section, but I am a newbie. If it doesnt i apoplogize.

I booted BT4 on my hp pavilion dv5-1160us notebook with intel wifi link 5100.
Now i can only connect to the internet through wired cables. when i go to the wcid manager, it said that no wireless network is found even though there are like 8.

The wlan0 is up already. some people say there is wifi0, where is that??

Anyways, do I need to install a driver or something?
Thx in advance!
sorry for my bad english

go into a command line and type
Code:

iwconfig wlan0
That will tell you if wlan0 is active. if that tells you something other than "wlan0 not found" (or whatever) then do:

Code:

airmon-ng start wlan0
which will attempt to put you into monitor mode with bt4, which is one of the main things you need to be able to do when using that distro.

But the majority of built-in wireless cards in laptops either are not supported natively in linux (sometimes a problem for live boot distros like BT), or don't support the special functions that they'd be used for in BT4 (like packet injection or monitor mode).

I looked for the HCL for BT4 but can't find it. Anyway I'm almost sure your problem is that the wifi card is not supported - you'll have to buy a USB type
