b43 and Navigatrix
Hello,
For decades, I have played around with several distros of Linux partly as a cheap solution to providing computers to school kids and partly for fun. Heck, I used DARPANET. Recently I got interested in marine navigation. I found a distro called Navigatrix. It is Ubuntu Trusty with lots of navigation and communication stuff bundled. I installed on a Dell Inspiron B130. Wifi wouldn't work. This ain't my first rodeo with this old laptop so I went to ethernet cable, downloaded firmware-b43-installer. I ran apt-get install with above. Light came on and I was happy. I ran apt-get update. Life was good. Then, being an incurable idiot full of misplaced curiosity, I saw the upgrade switch in the man pages. I ran that. Wifi went away. After a few minutes of frustration, I did a fresh re-install from disk to include b43, put b43 in /etc/modules and got the light back on. My question is, anybody know why I couldn't just reinstall firmware-b43-installer? After running upgrade, apt-get couldn't find it. Where did it go? Did the repositories change? Was it omitted on purpose? |
Looks like a bug
