azureus download speed goes to nil

Hi.

I'm more or less a complete newbie in linux, and I've run into some problems using azureus.

i've done the standard stuff:
installed azureus,
got my router to hand out static ip
opened udp/tcp ports at the router.
set iptables to open udp/tcp ports accordingly.

what happens is that azureus starts up alright, gives NAT OK, and does start downloading with respectable speed but the transfer rate goes to 0 soon. I thought this was something that normally happens between peer-switching (or something like that) but seeing uTorrent on winXP run smoothly without anything similar i suspect there's some program periodically checking on my connection. and it is too regular to be something like an outside problem...

my distribution is Fedora 6.

I need help.

thanks in advance

I would suggest using the actual BitTorrent client (if you're using GNOME) or KTorrent (if you're using KDE). I have used Azureus once in the past, and I thought it was a piece of trash. I was getting alot of connection problems (like you), and just random other things.

To install either, open up the command shell (terminal), su to root, and install either KTorrent or BitTorrent-gui:
Code:
$ su
Enter password: <type in root password>
# yum install -y ktorrent

-OR-

# yum install -y bittorrent-gui

You're very welcome.
I have no idea what's up with Azureus.

I have the same issue with Azureus as well. I have also switched to Bittorrent after playing around and reinstalling Java and Azureus. I did notice that Azureus would leak memory and seems to lock-up in the back end.

I do like the info that Azureus gives you on the torrent compared to the basic stuff in Bittorrent. I suppose it is like comparing the Ferrari with the model T ford. One requires lots of attention and the other just works.

i see...
but my ferrari just keeps breaking down!

well i think i'll be content with bittorrent until something more stable than azureus comes along. i doubt i'll be able to figure out what's wrong with it anytime soon.

Thanks a lot.
