.avi file invisible in hardy hard disc

heres a peculiar problem.from a pen drive i copied a folder containing a .avi file of 700mb which was copied to an ntfs file system within reasonable time.when i opened the folder i was surprised to see only a thumbs file of 24mb.is there any file type my hardy system is unable to recognise?the same folder has my 700mb file when accessed through windows.how is it possible?

Correct me if I am wrong but I dont think there is a file type that cannot be seen by linux. Obviously some files cannot be run such as bat or exe files files.

Does the file start with a "." period? It will not be seen unless you type ls -a.

Perhaps it did not get copied from the pen drive.

Try the find command to find the file. Try
Quote:
find <path to windows dir> -iname <file.avi>
