Avermedia DVBs capture card

This may sound like a dumb question but....
I have a video capture card, have downloaded the linuxtv-dvb-apps-1.1.1.tar.gz but really have no idea what to do next to get it working. It is extracted into a folder on my desktop but at this point I am stuck.
Please help

Hi

I am not familiar with the file you are referring to. I am assuming it is a TV capture driver. But, before you can get the right help, a couple of questions to ask:

1. Are you trying to capture TV signals or video from a camera?

2. Is the file you have extracted the driver for said card?

3. If this is a driver program, have you installed it or just extracted the files?

Post this information, what distro you are using and you may get a little further with some help.

Avermedia DVBS

1. It is for capturing Satelite signals

2. This file is supposed to be for this card

3. I have only extracted the files because, as stated, I have no idea how to install them.

4. I am running the Fedora5 release

Welcome to LQ, pyeco!

I downloaded the file, this contains source code for DVB utils. These utils are no use if your card is not installed. In other words, you need a kernel driver first. You need to know the chipset of your card. Then you probably need to rebuild your kernel to enable the driver and possibly some other required kernel features. Sorry, cannot be specific here, I'm not an expert in this field.

It appears to be loaded as the bt878

Good, then you need a decent program to conrol your card. One such a program is VDR. In case you want to use tools from the source you downloaded you need to follow this guide.
