automatically logging into XWindows

I have a Red Hat System and the gnome Xwindow system.

I can't give any more info now since the machine is taking data and I'm not able to access it.

I would like to know if it's possible to have the machine automatically log into Xwindows upon bootup with a specific username and pw. I am aware of the security concerns regarding this. I also am not about to change the run-level, that is, go from multiple user to single user mode.

Thanks in advance for the help and advice.

Cheers!

You could use gdm on boot for graphical login, but you're going have to enter a password every time - as far as I know.

I believe KDM has an option for automatically logging in with a specific username and password. You should have a look into it/it's conf files.
