When you log in at the GUI, at the console, or just when it boots?

For boot, use the init scripts... location depends on your distro, but it's often /etc/rc.d/ or /etc/init.d/.

For when you start X, put it in ~/.xinitrc

For when you start bash (a console), put it in ~/.bashrc
