automatic compatibility of hardware

Trying to build a computer: Is there something on the web that automatically ensures that everything will plug into everything else?

You pick a processor; then it gives you a list of compatible mother boards; then it gives you a list of compatible hard drives....

It would make things simpler.

Probably condemned out of my own mouth. Thanks any help.

I would find out about parts from

Linux from scratch
http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/
http://www.freegeek.org/freekbox.php(FREEKBOX)

No need to invent the wheels.

Also, every distro has a HCL list. You're welcomed to surf in

http://www.websamba.com/Linux_Docs_Links
-> hardware
-> hardware compatibility
