is there a way to bypass authentication login in redhat 7.2?

when installing the os i didnt setup the domain, and when linux booted up for the first time, it was attempting to login to localhost.localdomain (which doesnt exist)... how can i bypass this to get into the OS and correct the domain and computer name?

since you didn't set a hostname or domainname.. that is your login prompt:

login and change accordingly.

thats the thing. when i attempt to login as administrator with the p/w that i setup, it fails.

if you're logging in with your root password AS root then you must've just got the password wrong or something. sounds completely normal to me so far.

are you logging in as Administrator or as root ??

also during install, did it ask if you wanted to setup a normal user account ? if so and if you created a user, can you login as that user ?

i must be missing something. excuse my :newbie: 'ness...

i guess what im trying to figure out if there is a way to login locally bypassing network authentication..

it did ask me that question, but at the time I did not choose to setup any users...

well type in the root password correctly and you will log in... "Administrator" doesn't exist.

if you've got the password wrong then there's plenty of threads here about recovering the root password. forget abuot local network whatevers... localhost.localdomain is simply you'er computers name for now.

im too used to microsoft. i was attempting to login with the user name administrator and p/w the p/w i setup during setup...

so after reading your posts i noticed that i need to use root and the p/w....

yeah, the account Administrator won't exist unless you create him. root is the admin in Linux. login as root with password and that should allow you in to make changes to your box.

as for the localhost@localdomain, the only reason it set it up as that is you didn't set that up during install, so it just refers to that as default setting.
