Attaching laptop to Vizio TV with HDMI cable

hopefully someone can help. I hooked my laptop to my Vizio TV with an HDMI cable and the screen comes up but if I play something with sound like movie player or Banshee the sound comes out the laptop speakers not my TV speakers. Is there anyway to fix this. I am running Linux Mint 7 if that helps.

It's likely that you have to connect the sound separately. Use the headphone jack -- it will deliver sound to your home theater, and it will mute the laptop's speakers.
