ATI drivers on mandrake 10 working?

i followed all the instructions that i found on google and this site and i installed ATI drivers for my 9600xt. it edited my config file and everything and i didnt get a single error message. however, euphoria still plays like a slideshow, the same way it did before installing the drivers. am i missing something here?

hi nuka_t
did u install the ATI propietary drivers from an rpm.
that's what i did and the same thing happened to me on my new Radeon 9600.

in your window manager, open up a terminal and type in the command, "fglrxinfo".
it should come up with:

display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: ATI Technologies Inc.
OpenGL renderer string: RADEON 9600XT Generic
OpenGL version string: 1.3 (X4.3.0-3.9.0)

or something similiar if you've installed it and configured it properly. if it comes up with something about VESA or something, like it did with me, you might have to run "fglrxconfig" again and do things differently. it took me about 5 times for it to get the graphics acceleration happening properly on my Mandrake 10 Community box.

i asked on another forum and i found out that it wasnt in fact working.

this is waht the guy posted

Quote:
Well, I see that your "direct rendering" when you type glxinfo is "no". This tells me that you are not using your ATIs capabilities for rendering.

I'm not an ATI guy, so I can't help you fix it... With my nVidia card, as soon as I installed and set up the module, it worked.
do you know how i can turn direct rendering on? if i do go and run fglrxconfig again, i would probably do it hte same way cause i dont know what i did wrong.

edit: and i compiled htem from source, not an rpm.

i just got my radeon 9600 installed and working on mandrake 10, the way i did it was goto the mandrake control center and remove everything to do with ati drivers that were already installed, then i got the latest rpm driver from the ati site and rebooted(couldnt log into X then as id removed all the ati driver bits installed that X was using) so i did it from the command prompt, install goes along flawlessly, note, you also need to have the source code for your kernel installed for this to work (its on cd 3 and can be installed through mandrake control center)
