ATI driver problems

I had my ATI graphics card working perfectly under Ubuntu until I updated the system now it seems to have reverted back to the mesa driver. My xorg.conf file hasnt changed and still mentions the fglrx driver. How do I go about enabling the ATI driver again?

You are probably now running a different kernel. That is why it's not working anymore.

All you need to do is rerun the ATI installer.

No need to rerun the config program since your xorg.conf file is already set up.

It's best to switch to runlevel 3 (init 3) and run the installer again.
Then make sure fglrx is loaded with lsmod.
You may have to manually load it the first time after it's installed.

I hope that helps.

Ok i reinstalled the ati driver with:

apt-get install --reinstall xorg-driver-fglrx

and then restarted. fglrx seems loaded and the output of lsmod | grep fglrx is:

fglrx 388908 0
agpgart 34888 2 fglrx,amd64_agp

however the output of fglrxinfo still shows the mesa driver:

OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project:
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.4.1)

Have I missed a step? Thanks for the quick reply btw!

Check out this page.

http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu..._.288.25.18.29

It goes over several ways to install and points to some specific systems that have problems with
some versions of the driver.

Let me know how it turns out.
