ATI and DRI drivers help please


Hi

Im a real noob at linux and would like some advice on installing my ati radeon ive got a radeon 7500 and there are no radeon 7500 drivers for linux on the ati site so i searched around the net for a while and found dri drivers and i unzipped or whatever its called on linx :P

But i still have no idea how to install the files the dri file i downloaded was X11R6.8.2-src.tar.bz2 could some1 plz give me advice on where to get drivers for my radeon and also pretty please an easy install guid

btw im running linux mandrake 10.1

Mandrake 10.1 should already have the radeon drivers included. lsmod should report a module called radeon, if so. You already have it

yes the default drivers are installed but I dont like a 800x600 display and I cant set my display any higher

Thats not the radeon driver limiting you in this case.. That is your monitor settings. Make sure you have the correct monitor setup in Mandrake Control Center.

I think the video card settings would have even more effect than the monitor settings. Check out your xorg or xfree86 config file, and make sure it has your card identified correctly, and that you have it set to allow resolutions as high as you like.
