ATI 9600 card not recognized in Debian woody
Hi
I just got done installing Debian woody 3.02 on a separate drive on my machine. (had fedora before but had dual boot problem which i couldn't fix) everything went well (thanks to some "how to" notes). I'm able to select linux in lilo and it boots up fine to the command line. I put in my regular name and password and i login just fine. Now i go to launch x-windows and when i type startx, it does not boot int the GUI. It cannot detect my ATI Radeon 9600. Now i'm not sure what to do. I went to ati website and they have 3 drivers for xfree86 (not sure which one to get . How would i go about installing these drivers? Would installing the rpms fix it? Would i be able to run the video config. again? Is it a driver issue? or can i selecta generic video card and get it to boot up and how would i do that? I'm a newbie at this, so much to learn but enjoying it. Any help appreciated. Thanks |
What does 'modprobe ati' get you?
