Atheros ARBXB63 drivers? (Running Macpup 528 on an Asus Eee 4G)
Yes, well, ahem, another Linux distro stuffed up. This time, I have no motivation to install another distro.
The problem is this: I have no wireless. Previously, while using a Network Manager, there were two options: Wlan0 and eth0. Now, there's just eth0. I'm not mentioning any specific network managers as they all give me the same problem. I have searched for similar problems on the Puppy forums. None of the solutions on there made sense to me (either install a different distro or basically build a new Eiffel Tower from source code). So I have no wireless. I'm using an Ethernet Cable to use the Internet right now. So then, I read that it is possible to compile your own drivers. What I ask of you, O Gods of GNU/Linux, is this: a) Tell me where I could find- and how to install- the driver(s) needed (the easiest method) b) Compile a driver and give me a download link (Only if it's easy, don't want to waste people's time) c) Tell me how to make a driver (BTW, I've never compiled anything before) Thanks in advance, guys! |
Not sure if your eeepc 701 is the same model as mine. Here is my email post to the developer of Macpup as I am a team member of that distro.

Edit: In case you wish to install inxi in Macpup. Here is a old how to I made. http://yatsite.blogspot.com/2010/03/...in-macpup.html |
Took awhile for me to find it. But here is my test run on my eeepc 900 that uses a atheros wireless chipset. What I said about frugal install still applies though.

Oh my god. Well, nothing that you suggested worked, and it was all my fault. The good news is, Wlan0 works now.
Hehe... well the hotkey do activate or deactivate Wlan is disabled on macpup so I naturally assumed it would be activated... a suspicion creeped up on me, and I checked the BIOS settings. And the Wireless was disabled. So it wasn't a driver error at all. Thank you for your effort, I'm sure it would have helped if it was a driver problem! |
