I have a new Acer 5520-5908 with a clean install of Ubuntu 8.04. The Atheros AR5BXB63 wireless adapter seems to be identified, but not working.
I have spent several hours searching forums for answers, but none of the posts seem to apply to my computer. I have found many suggestions to try (fill in arcane word the meaning of which could be anything). I was hoping for some assistance in the way of (click here, download this, click there, type the following). I really only use this computer for remote desktop connections, and everything else seems to be working well, so I would hate to go back to windows over this failure. Anybody know how to get wireless working for me?
You don't say what you've tried, but have you looked into the madwifi driver? Have a look at www.madwifi.org. In the wiki, you will find some pretty specific Ubuntu instructions if I recall correctly
I downloaded madwifi and extracted it, but was unable to understand the "instructions " at the website. It really is like trying to read Klingon for me. I thought maybe there would be a driver that we could install.
Please assist.
One of the first instructions is:Open a shell terminal in the MadWifi source directory. How do I do this? I can navigate all over the madwifi directory, but there are no executables and I have no idea of the syntax to get from one directory to the next in a terminal window.
Thank you for your patience.
