Atheros AR5007EG wireless network adapter not working in Fedora core 6


I installed fedora core 6. kernel 2.6.18.
but my wireless adapter is not working. i tried to find the solution from forums. i installed madwifi-0.9.4. but when i say iwconfig it says eth0 no wireless connection. and also i cannot see network manager. i couldnt find it.
I need a big help. can someone explain what to do step by step?

did you use the how-to document on the madwifi site for Fedora ?

i am newbie

i dont know how to use it. i have no idea what linux is almost. i wanna learn and use it.

well my suggestion would be to follow the directions at the link I provided. they are going to be more precise and clear than anything I could explain.

IF you follow those directions step by step and run into issues come back to this thread explain exactly where you are getting stuck and what errors you are getting. we should be able to help from there.

madwifi

i have kernel 2.6.18 but on http://atrpms.net/dist/el5/madwifi/ i have lots of madwifi-kmdl-2.6.18 files. which ones to download?

can't you install it through yum ?

yum install madwifi or something along those lines ? your package manager should be able to identify the proper file and grab it.

farslayer and OP, I've been looking around for AR5007EG and it seems like this one is so new that you may need the latest madwifi for it. Take a look at this thread, and consider that unless you have a recent kernel that has ath5k (2.6.24 and later I believe, but not sure), you may need to use madwifi-hal-0.10.5.6

You need something much more recent than Fedora 6 if you want it to work out of the box. The ath5k driver in the 2.6.27 kernel works great with the AR5007EG. Madwifi isn't necessary anymore.

Ok I will try to install fedora 8 and kernel 2.6.27 . Then i will ask for your help

I installed Fedora 8. it had kernel 2.6.23.
Now how can i upgrade kernel to 2.6.27? I downloaded it but dont know what to do.
