Atech modem

Hey everyone, this is my first post to the forum.

Im trying to get my modem to be detected by Redhat 6.1 (getting 9.0 this week). Im using an Atech ats-256 dialup modem and when I go into kppp and try to query my modem it says it cant open it or its busy. It says this on every port select. I've used modemtool and I have tried every port but still its a no go.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I have been trying to get this to work all weekend.

Thanks in advance, Rick.

Hi and welcome to LQ It sounds like it's an internal "winmodem" (if it's an external one, simply selecting the correct port would have got it going). Have a surf over to linmodems.org and try one of the drivers there to get you started.

If the modem is a "Conexant HSF modem", you'll find that the new drivers are speed-locked to 14.4k ... BUT, you can download an older non-speed-locked version here .

Just be warned that it doesn't seem to work with the 2.6 kernels, but if you're using Redhat 9.0 or less, it should work. Just be prepared to shell out for a license to unlock the newer driver. I had to after upgrading to MDK10, but it's a good driver and I rarely get drop-outs or modem lock-ups like I used to get with the older driver.
