At boot, grub prompt comes!


My box is Sciene Linux 6.1 x86.

Today I tried to boot my box, the grub prompt comes!

Please let me know how to boot sl 6.1.

We need to know the partition number / is on. Best post the results of fdisk -l from terminal as root.

And you mean Scientific Linux?

You can not run command fdisk -l from grub prompt. If you have a live cd install and run command from its terminal.

From your grub prompt try

geometry (hd0)

and post results

How many hard drives do you have?

If you have one hard drive you must not have Scientific installed. If you have only one hard drive try and reinstall your scientific linux. If not take a live cd and from terminal run the fdisk -l.
