Aspireone d255e
I purchased two netbooks 8 months ago. I gave one to my teenager. She cracked the screen, and she no longer uses the netbook. I have hooked it up to a external monitor, but she has a password on the user screen. Is there a way to add myself as a user without re-setting the whole system? She has a lock on the BIOS and I cannot get it to reset. Any information would be most appreciated. Thank-You

If that's the case I don't really know how to get around that. Can you provide detail as to what OS and version we're talking about? |
"user screen" is not a term I recognise. Do you mean the login screen?
This seems so obvious that I hesitate to ask it, but if your daughter set passwords can't she tell you what they are? I'm assuming the netbook is running some form of Linux since you're posting on a Linux forum, so try making a bootable USB drive (there's instructions on the Ubuntu website), boot the netbook from that (assuming the BIOS settings are set to allow that) and then you can mount the root file system and manually hack files to add yourself a user account. I won't go in to the details but if you get as far as booting it from a USB drive then post back and someone can tell you what to do. |

Microsoft Windows is an Operating System. (An operating system (OS) is a set of programs that manages computer hardware resources, and provides common services for application software.) This forum is a place to discuss Linux based Operating Systems. If you have a problem with a computer running Microsoft Windows, this is not the place to be looking for help. It's a bit like going to a Toyota dealership and asking them if they can help you with a problem you're having with the CD player in your Ford Focus. If the BIOS is password protected you need to find a way to get rid of the password (again, nothing to do with Linux). You might be able to find out how to do that via Google https://encrypted.google.com/search?...one+reset+bios |
