I install ubuntu-restricted-extras.deb
that fails to install because it's dependant on libc6
i install libc6 and is says it conflicts with tzdata
so I try installing gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg.deb
that's dependant on libc6 as well and it's dependant on libglib2.0-0
so I install libglib2.0-0 and THAT has a dependency on libpcre3
so I though f*** it... and I downloaded and installed aptitude.deb to sort out these dependencies for me...
"dependancey problems prevent configuration of aptitude:"
Support for Fluxbuntu ended in April 2009; that is the likely reason you are having trouble installing ubuntu-restricted-extras. Why don't you use a currently-supported release? The current Ubuntu is 10.04 (it will be supported through April 2013), or you may be interested in Linux Mint Fluxbox Edition.
If you really want to use an end-of-life release (keeping in mind you will get no updates, bug fixes, or security patches) you'll need to edit /etc/apt/sources.list and change all of the URLs from "...archive.ubuntu..." to "...old-releases.ubuntu..." then you should be able to:
The reason I'm using fluxbuntu is it's the only OS that will run on my old laptop, that and android, but the screen was funny. even xbuntu was too slow and locked up, I've tried since saturday 6 different distros and flux is the only one that'll work. which sucks.
other distros i tried ubuntu, linuxmint, brobserlinux, xbuntu and some others I cant remember the name of.

1998 old, it's a 300MHz celeron old... but i've jsut got back from my trip, i took the laptop as a portable media player and it was fantastic! ok, it doesnt play WMAs or WMVs and it will only play a DVD that i've copied, but i have a habit of making backups of my favorate DVDs so the originals dont get scratched (i'm anal like that)
so all in all it was good, it runs nice and smooth, it's a shame the support for fluxbunt was stopped because it's revived an ancient laptop.
