are there any quick how-to's to linux?

i am very new to linux... i mean, no experience whatsoever and no knowledge at all. i have heard of it though... my problem is i need a background on it. could you help me learn everything i need to know to at least have a workable background.. thanks... ebooks in pdf format would be very much appreciated... pls send them to ryan_jason6746@yahoo.com
