Archtek Smartlink Modem Not Working
Hello again,
I have succesfully installed Slack 8.1, and was previously running RH 7.3. On both, my modem would not work (on Slack now I am using KPPP to connected, can't figure out any other way to do it, and I get the message: "modem not responding", or something like that). I have a Archtek Smartlink Modem 3334BT Plug & Play (Thats what it says under Windows) I read online that it has a Texas Instruments chipset. Am I just not configuring it right in Linux or is this one of those dreaded winmodems. If it is, where can I find drivers? Thanks, JMagi |
Can you give the chipset# ? From what I've read, they are testing this modem for kernel 2.5.

I'm not sure where I can get that number. The old modem I had before I tried this one was a HSP 56 Micromodem. Would that work better than the one I have now? When is kernel 2.5 scheduled for release?

Thats up to Linus Torvalds but they have put a freeze on development I hear.So it may be out soon.
I looked at the list of modems by Archtek and most of them are winmodems. But the PCtel modem, according to this is compatible with linux.Give it a try. lynch |
When I go into KPPP and Query Modem, I get the message "Sorry, the modem doesn't respond." In Windows, it is listed as COM1 but just to make sure, I tried every possible choice for "Modem Device" that was listed, and none worked. Is there another reason that this could be happening? I can use the modem fine in Windows, just not in Linux.
I appreciate any replys, thanks, JMagi |
