apt-get ... what is it and how can i make use of it?
 

Hi,

I'm new to linux and i've heard a lot about apt-get. I realize it's for installation of new software. but how do you get apt-get? is it difficult to install and set up? how do i make use of it after i have it installed?

Depends on your distro. If you are using Debian or a Debian-based distro, you already have it.
If you are using RedHat or another rpm based distro then I think you will want to get either apt-rpm or apt4rpm.
If you are using Mandrake then I think you can use urpmi to do basically the same thing.
