Apache permissions

Hi All,

I have my Linux redhat 9 apache server runnning find and dandy with one slight problem.
OK.
I have a folder that is in the Document Root (where it should be)

On the Linux box when i go http://localhost/filefolder I am able to index all of the files stored here. Thus indexing is turned on through apache and everything is dandy.

But, when I type the url in, http://url/filefolder, i get a "Page cannot be displayed' error message.

So, this has to be a rights thing I thought. So, being a Linux newbie, I rightclick on filefolder and go to permissions...it looks like everything and everybody has access to this folder..unless i'm doing something wrong???? Anybody??? Are there different ways to see the permissions of the file??? Through the terminal???

Thx to all who reply!!!

I think it's simply a name resolving problem. You arent getting a 404 from apache are you? Just a browser error.
Try the server's ip instead.
You do have some dns set up to point url to your ip right?

Hi - thx for replying.

Forgive me if I never spelled it out better for you. My url works.

Yup - I am using dyndns.org to resolve my ip to my dns name. I can go to my url and it's all good. The url is just the index.html file though. When I go to the link i created that points to the 'filefolder' it gives me the page cannot be displayed error message. However, when I go http://localhost/filefolder it works. When I go http://url/filefolder - it doesn't. DOH!

If the rights are drwxrwxrwx then it may be that indexing is for localhost only. Try putting an index.html page in /filefolder.

OK - I through the index.html file in the /filefolder, restarted apache, still not working. Interesting though, I checked the rights of /filefolder and they are drwxrwxrwx. But I checked the rights of index.html and they are -rw-rw-r-- ....is this normal?

Try setting them to rwxrwxrwx just to solve this problem.
