Where is the folder that i put all my files for Apache that i want to be hosted by my computer?

check out the /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf file for where it says wwwroot or document root

There you can set where the files will be. By default I think it is in /var/www

That's the way it is in RH9. It shouldn't be any different in Mandy.

ok i found that directory but now i cant change the 'home page'

Why not?

What are you doing? Be more descriptive...

Few tips:

1 - You've to be root to edit "the page"
2 - You've to edit(or replace) index.html, which is your default page
3 - You can open your browser and type: http://localhost or http://your_ip_address, to check if it's working ;)

the internet is working -- when i type in 192.168.2.4(as i am behind a router) it brings up the apache page. -- Which i thought was located in /var/www/html -- which i think it is. SO i went and changed the httpd2.conf file and edited so that the root directory was /var/www/site (i created it) I put an index.html in to that directory and when i went to the 'site' i still got the apache page. I checked the .conf file and it still said /var/www/site so i dont knwo what is going on

Update:
so i found out that i needed to restart the server for changes to take effect so i made the changes and then restarted the server. when i didso i typed in http://192.168.2.4 and then it came up with 'forbidden not allowed to access' now what

probably you have some strange permissions set to the directory that you are trying to use as the default HTML directory. Check permissions, or try accessing it with full address http://ip/index.html

i have it set as 777 and i even typed in 192.168.2.4/index.html and i still got a forbidden

try typing some bogus address like http://ip/something.html

tell me what that gives you

So this is some different problem

index.html is bogus as is something.html

Check httpd.conf, where it says documentroot. Check some lines below there is another line that says documentroot.

I know that DocumentRoot is set in httpd.conf in two places. You must replace both with your settings or it will not work for you.

These places are near each other. Or if you don't want to search, try searching for the old apache DocumentRoot (probably /var/www).

update -- i even changed the httpd2-perl.conf script to point to /var/www/site and it still didnt work -- i restarted the server and tryed again with no luck
