Apache "Connection was refused" remote access error
 

Hello and goodday,


I have set up apache on a FC3 box and confirmed that it is running. When I type "http://localhost" in the web browser I can access the web pages just fine. When I access my router's IP address (which I have set to link to that specific box on ports 80 and 21) I can access the website just fine.

Now when I go onto a remoter computer out of my LAN I get a error that the "connection was refused while trying to connect to spicy.no-ip.info"

--By the way I have set up this DNS name to link to my dyn. IP automatically

http://spicy.no-ip.info

Further more I have set up vsftpd and it works fine, even remotely.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You do have your router set to forward http traffic to your server, correct? I'm guessing you did that since you did forward ftp traffic, but just making sure. There are no rules conflicting in the router, such as remote administration or anything?

I really don't think so. I have checked the router and it all looks good.

And I can access the page from my LAN over the IP spicy.no-ip.info which is a link to my router.

Is my router that clever that it can identify that I am the one trying to connect?

And besides the FTP is working fine.

Well,

I think I found out what is going on.

My ISP (Cox, boy they sure do live up to their name) blocks incoming port 80 requests.

So now my question is can I forward a DNS to a specific port?

the router may realize that spicy.no-ip.info is for an internal address and resolve it. one way to find out is to ping spicy.no-ip.info and see if you get your public ip or an ip on the lan

If his ISP blocks port 80 your suggestion will not help him at all.

He can run apache on a different port and tell his no-ip.info to forward any port 80 requests to the port apache is running on.

Hey Sergeant, maybe you can help.
I have to go to work in Spain for three months. In that time, I know my wife or boys will mess up things on this computer, Fedora 3.
I am trying to find out how I can get at my computer from Spain, and maybe fix the damage, say, if the printer won't work or so.
I have a dial up modem connection, so my ip changes.
Any tips about what to do?

I have used no-ip to reroute the port 80 requests and it works - but now it shows the IP address, which I guess I can live with.
