Apache and system user authentication
I used to run Windows Server 2003 and IIS to serve web pages. It had a built-in feature where I could require authentication that checked against Active Directory, meaning if the user had an account on the domain, they had to enter that username and password to access the protected resource.
I have Apache 2.2.0 on SUSE Linux 10.1. Can I do something similar where I either put a .htaccess file in a directory to protect (or an entire virtual host, in this case), and it checks against system users, allowing ones I specify to view the resource?
To be clear, I do not want to password-protect a resource with an arbitrary username and password. Instead, I want Apache to consult the list of local system users. That way, changes I make to my local account (including my password) immediately affect Apache.
