Apache and directories

Can you tell me how to make a directory using apache.
For instance www dot mainpage dot com is the website with the index at /var/www/html
and I want a www dot mainpage dot com slash folder. That is a folder, I am guessing, so where do I put that folder at?
The dis. I am using is MAndriva 2005 LE

You have directorys then files inside that so
mkdir /var/www/html/newdir
you will have a new directory named newdir
is that what you wanted?

I tried that before i posted, it didn't work. I wanted the directory to be able to be accessed from any computer using apache. Like my website blackdragon dot game-host dot org (replace dots with . and no spaces) when i type in the address with /folder1 on a browser, it goes to a random search engine.

Find;
<Directory />
Options Multiviews Indexes Includes FollowSymlinks
AllowOverride All
<IfModule mod_access.c>
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Ifmodule>
</Directory>
Not sure which file on mandrake, this will open up the directorys if it says;
Deny from all
Is that what you wanted? I don't understand this part;

You may have made the directory in the wrong place. In Debian at least, for your main site you would want to mkdir /var/www/newdir or for individuals mkdir /home/user/public_html/newdir.

To access the first one you would put www.mysite.com/newdir in Firefox. For the 2nd one, it would be www.mysite.com/~user/newdir.

Also, this may be a DNS problem where the browser doesn't know what ip address is associated with www.mysite.com. Can you access your mainpage with the browser?

Like this website, if you look on the address bar it has the website + /questions.
I was just wondering how to get others to see the webpage from that directory.
