Apache 2.0.40 and ColdFusion MX Problem

Total Linux Red Hat 9 Newbie here, but learning very quickly and eager to make the final move!

I know that most of you will not be readily familiar with ColdFusion MX... but I do need to get it running on Linux/Apache 2.0.40 ASAP.

I ran the install for ColdFusion MX, and answered all the questions, and it WAS working! Twice!

After each time that I got it working, and started working with the Apache GUI to configure either the default web host, or a new virtual host that I attempted to add, something appears to have changed in the apache configuration file that is not intended... because suddenly, all the actual ColdFusion code in the .cfm template simply appears as TEXT instead of being parsed/processed.

As I said, after each install, it *was* working great -- I had a #Now()# variable output, for example, and it returned an ODBC-formatted date and time with no problem.

Tried to add a virtual host, which failed, and then removed it, and BAM, now I get source code in the browser instead of variable contents, etc.

I don't want to reinstall ColdFusion MX again, even though I know that will probably "fix" the problem. I'd rather know what's actually breaking, and fix it... because obviously, in a production environment, constant reinstallation of the Application Server is just not an option! :)

I don't know where to start. I don't quite understand how CF is connected to Apache; I've been using CF on IIS since 1997, and I know exactly where I'd go to find such a problem there... but I don't want to "be" "there" anymore!

Please, can anyone get back to me on this, so I can continue moving forward? I'm kinda stuck, and don't want to install and convert more CF sites until I know exactly how to jump this major hurdle in the future!

I thank you very much in advance,

Marc

Hay funaroma
Wish I could help cause I'm trying to get away from Microsucks Winblows also. But I have a question for you. I'm running Red Hat 9.0 with Apache and I can't even get cold fusion to install.
It's just the demo version for now to see how it goes before I spend the cash on the full version.
Anyway, I'm logged in as root but when I try to install is says Permission denied. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Leary

I'm not sure I'm qualified enough to help you, but I *think* you need to chmod the install file, changing the permissions on it before you run it... (?)

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Have you figured out your problem yet?

No answers to my questions yet; thinking i'll need to figure out how to compile Linux for my particular machine or something... REALLY hoping there's a way to adjust this mouse speed!!
