Anyone succeed with install to 8G Flash?

I've installed FC6 to a 2G Lexar flash. Great, works great. Lexar doesn't yet make 8G.
The two 8G flash drives do not work for installing Linux on them. I tried a Transcend as well as a USModular Quickdrive. No joy. The Transcend gives Bug: Soft lockup detected... maybe I had a bad drive? Well, I was trying with no Swap so maybe that was it as well.
Then I tried the USModular with Swap of 64MB and bootup hangs after switchroot in initrd. These were with FC6 (Fedora Core 6). So, I tried OpenSUSE 10.2. It required a larger Swap. I set it to 1G. (There goes my space on my thumb drive.:-) Installs and reboots but then has errors (this and that "FAILED") on startup and cannot start the graphics (GDM). Cannot even login at the prompt. I enter "root" as username and it says "login failed". No password prompt. Hmph!
Ah, so I try FC6 with 1GB of Swap. Installs and reboots but also has errors. In fact, requires an fsck. But that does no good. I have used ext3 so am now reinstalling (for the umpteenth time) and have chosen ext2.

I'm beginning to think the 8G flash drives on the market are below par in quality. Anyone have a good 8G flash drive or have problems?

Thanks in advance. Very frustrated,

Reinstalled using ext2. Reboots with fewer errors. Tried to startx. Cannot. pkill. and such but "unable to connect to X server" trying to connect to server. I reboot and now disk errors. fsck -y. Says "FILESYSTEM WAS CHANGED" "REBOOT LINUX". I do as I'm told and issue "reboot". Arg! Same problems.

Guess I'll return the drive to USModular. Already returned the Transcend to TigerDirect. The USModular is also very slow to boot... several minutes whereas the Lexar is about a minute.

Maybe someone else can find a good 8G on the market or avoid headaches.

BTW, no Xorg log file is even created in /var/log/ and dmesg gives no pertinent output!
