Anyone please try to download my multidistro.iso from torrent to see if it works?!

Please see Reply#94 for the latest

Note-this posting is about my exploits at creating multidistro
Linux for USB/CD, not about torrent. Have fun

Please see "reply #80" to get the download link
for the CD and USB versions.

You can skip to "reply 61 " and start there as these first pages are irrelevent to "LinuxToolz-Beta.iso".

If the download page has an error-try late at night/early in the morning.

Note it is a Multidistro Linux of 498MB featuring
SystemRescueCD-1.1.6
Ubuntu-Rescue-Remix-8.04
Billix-0.24 which includes-
DSL-4.4.10
Ubuntu Hardy Desktop/Server Net-install
Fedora-10 Net-install
Debian Lenny Net-install
NTPassWord
Memtest
+ more...

Please see reply #91 for the LinuxLive-Beta-USB download link. It includes-
DSL-4.4.10
DSL-N-01RC4
Feather-0.7.5
Slitaz-latest "cooking" version
Puppy-4.2
NetbootCD-2.2 Which can Net-install
Ubuntu-6.06-9.04
Debian-stable/testing/unstable
Fedora-7-10 + testing
openSUSE-10.3/11/11.1/+ factory
Mandriva-2008/2009/cooker/current
CentOS-4/5 latest
Slackware-12.1/12.2/current

Please see "reply#92" for the fixed DSL dsl-linux.sh Qemu vm too!

I added my self as a seed but it was only going at 40kbs-how can I let it use alot of my bandwidth-I get 190kbs?

The speed died again-how do I offer myself as a seeder-says I am a seeder but none of my bandwidth is being used-no one knows how to setup ktorrent-that's what I'm using?

Contact your ISP and ask for more upstream bandwidth. It will come on the expense of your downstream bandwidth. Or wait until more users have partial downloads of your iso and they spread it also.

Torrent works on the principle of seeders and peers. 1 seeder and 2 peers and your upload bandwidth of say 100kbps, means the peers will download at 50kbps each from you and then grab what they can off of each other. The issue with trying to push out a distro this way is you'll need lots of seeders. Your bandwidth down and up speeds will vary, you have 190kbps down, but usually you only get a 1/4 to an 1/8 of that for upload, so sitting at 40kbps would actually seem correct - unless you are on a T1?

What I'm trying to say is, you'd be better off uploading to rapidshare or that sort of service, or an FTP server and giving out the address where people can download from at decent rates. Home internet has never been in favour of uploading, hence the upload/download difference.

For what it's worth, I'm on UK Cable and I get 2mb download and only 256kb upload.

Hi Linus72,

Great to see you are doing this!

Unfortunately, starting a seed is sloooooow, unless you have some super connection. (I have downloaded at over 700kbs, but can only upload approx 60-70 kbs. This however, also goes for uploading to eg. Rapidshare)

The key word here is patience. As more people DL, more will upload, and the group of peers (aka swarm) will be less dependent on *your* upload.

I will start the torrent tonight at home and leave the pc on for a couple of days to support you. (Filesharing at work will get me fired.)

And lets hope those that have finished a DL will also seed to a reasonable ratio (anywhere between 3 and 7 would be great)

Should you want to distribute regular updates to your multi-distro live-dvd (still a brilliant idea IMHO), perhaps you need a permanent web adress where you can also ask people to support you by seeding.

Good luck!

Dutch
