Any super users out there?

Believe it or not, this showed up in my 'fortune' today:

nohup rm -fr /&

Whatever you do, do not enter that command unless you want to completely erase your system and start everything over from scratch. Moreover, if your dealing with a server (which is what nohup is normally reserved for) it'll wipe out anything you have access to on that server and perhaps really piss off your server provider.

It is however, a really neat way to completely erase your system short of dropping the partition.

Just a lesson to newbies out there that everything that shines isn't necessarily gold!

Cheers

- Perry

ps.
Code:

perry@slackware:~$ su
Password:

nohup rm -fr /&

root@slackware:/home/perry#

well firstly that's clearly a joke, and anyone typing that in totally deserves what they get. additionally if that command were to do anythign on a shared hosted server, the hosting company also deserves everythign they get, as any basic hosting will do nothign more that delete your own mp3's and junk.

I'm shocked by fortune. I wonder if they have some fork bombs in there too...

did you not know that fortune is communist?!?! all americans take note... read a daft fortune joke and you're no better than those stinking ruskies...

Slackware is for work, not play, IMO. All my Slackware installs are sans games, which is where fortune resides. Not only are fortunes commie, as Chris states, but they're just plain stupid. Agreed that anyone who blindly executes commands (especially from the internet and unknown sources) deserves the end result.
