Any suggestions for starting to learn linux?

I just started into linux about a week ago and was wondering about any good way to get into it and learn how it works. Anyone have any links to subjects about coding in linux for newbies/people who have never programmed and only used windoze til now?

Anything you post that is relavent to coding in Python, Java, C++, or LISP would be greatly beneficial for my quest to learn how to use linux.

Also I have a Radeon 9600se video card that I got for Christmas. It seems be unable to run with 3d support in Mandrake. I am using Mandrake 9.2 with XFree86 4.3.0 and I tried to patch it but i got an error. I'll try to post what the error is later if anyone could help me there too.

Thank you for your time.

A New Linux User

I would start by doing everything that you once did in Windows. Learn how to do all of those things first. Once you have that down, start doing the things that you could never do in Windows...<G>.

On a more serious note, I would begin by browsing the How-Tos and finding things that you consider interesting. After you find something that sparks your interest, figure out how to do that well. Then move on to something else. I have found that learning how to use Linux is a huge undertaking...but works for me one piece at a time by doing new things. Just my experience.

You might want to look at these free HowTos from the LInux Documentation Project.
