Question Anti Virus

I am a recent convert trying to migrate to mandrake, and have a rather basic question for the forum.

Is there any open source equivalent of Norton or McAfee that I can use on my linux box?

If this was trivial, perhaps my other question regarding unicode in the linux-distro forum will provide additional challenges

Thanks a ton..

B

PS: I finally read the forum and see that this has been addressed before... promise to read first and ask later next time.. cheers.

but you might also want to consider not running
an antivirus program, since virii for linux are quite
uncommon.

i don't use it to check for virii in linux, i use it to to check
windows for virii from linux. when somebody brings me
a windows box that's acting up, i boot linux first and
run f-prot, after backing up the partition usually. a lot
of virii have counters for payloads and such, and i don't
want ot risk that payload being released the first time
i boot the machine at my house.
i also use it for deleting copies of klez from my
attachments folder, so i don't accidently do something
dumb when in windows.
