Another question in the endless sea of Newbisum

Quote:
errrr uhhh ?
I am trying to load up a copy of real player in kde. It does the install, but then ask me to load disk 2 of my installation package for RH 9.

Unfortunately I do not have a copy of that, as the laptop that I have, has only a floppy drive on it at the moment. Does anyone have a work around for this?

Also if anyone has any souloutions on why, I get a good sound test on my sound card, but when I try to play mp3 files, or really any thing, wav or others, all I get is a bunch of hash in the files window, and no sound whatsoever.

Thanx the Old Guy

To play mp3's using Redhat 9 you need to download mpg123 as Redhat doesn't come with mp3 support out of the box as they exclude this program.

Why not download RealPlayer from the net to install instead of from the cd's. If you don't have the second cd when it calls for it, that usually means that is the cd the program is on so you won't be able to install unless you have the second cd. I'd suggest just downloading it from most likely realplayer.com or something.

Thanks for the tips Tricky, as wellas the links. The issue with the real player, is one I may have to try.

The laptop I am speaking about came with RH9 installed, and within the generic user folder there are several software packages, real player being one of them. What the message was though, is that I needed to insert my Redhat install disk #2.
I do have the complete Redhat disk's on CD but this laptop has only a floppy, which I am trying very hard to rectify, and finding it hard to find just a plain Ol CD-rom drive these days.
Thanks for the help on this.
Jeff

Hmmm...well real player needs some other packages to work properly and I'm guessing that they are on disc2. Is there anyway you could find out what packages it is looking for exactly? If you find out what they are, you can download and install them and realplayer won't ask to insert the disc.

Man!! years of working with that kid Bill"s machines have just turned my brain to jelly. I tried to install those rpm files for the mpeg player, but I can't get the rpm to run nothing happens anyway that I can see. I am not even sure if I am running the rpm's correctly. Do you just click on them or is there a way to install them that I'm not doing?

Thanks for all this help, I am kind of a visual guy, you kind of have to put my fingers on the buttons. Once I get it though I'm off and running, crashing into everything mostly.
Thanx Jeff
