Another Nvidia drivers question from another extreme noob
Hey folks. I'm running Mandrake 9.1 with GNOME. I'm trying to install these: NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496
I login as root, go to the folder that I downloaded the file to and type "sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-4496-pkg2.run" The computer starts thinking and ticking and then I get the following error: ERROR: Unable to find the system utility `ld`; please make sure you have the package 'binutils' installed. If you do have binutils installed, then please check that `ld` is in your PATH. I have no idea what any of this means. I've been using Linux since Tuesday. If anyone can explain how I could go about fixing this problem with step-by-step detail in extremely elementary terms I WOULD BE MUCH OLBIGED. Thanks. |
i'll giv u a hint. launch mandrake command center. from there go to add packages. make sure u have selected all the option under developement. and then install. it will prompt u for all the required cd. after that rerun nvidia setup

run this command to see if you have binutils installed:
rpm -qa "binutils" if the output is something like: binutils-2.XXXXXXXXXX then it's installed. most likely though it isn't. in which case you can get them here: http://rpmfind.rediris.es/rpm2html/binutils.html download and install the package for your distro and its version. |
Thanks for the quick replies. Mega, your suggestion solved my problem, so thanks for that. I've got the driver installed. Now, how do I edit my Xfree86Config?
Edit- Also, every time I open up the Mandrake Control Center, my mouse freezes. It's a USB Microsoft IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0. Any idea how I could fix this? Thanks. |
