Hello and welcome to LQ forum!
It's good that you've installed RHL. You can now follow guides listed below and keep practicing for command and new concepts. If you face any problem or have any doubt, post here. 1. Linux on the Road 2. Introduction to Linux 3. Bash Guide for Beginners |

RH9 is a little over a decade old and is no longer supported. I would recommend either investing in RHE6.x or using its close fork CentOS for learning. That is unless the class you are taking in school mandates RH9, if that is the case, I'd consider dropping that class as a farily large amount of what they will be covering will be out of date an no longer function in modern distros. If it is just a basic Linux course, then any distro will be fine including RH9 as basic bash commands and basic linux commands have not changed. If this is administrative tasks, or more detailed about the server, then RH9 is not worth it. No USB support, no LVM support, no ext4 support, etc... RH9 is just to bloody old. |

it went "End of Life" a very long time ago if you need to stay with red hat buy a license and install the current RHEL 6.4 red hat did a name change 10 years ago rh9 went to RHEL3 rhel3 is unsupported RHEL 4 is unsupported( mostly) and RHEL 5.9 is the very last minor update to the 5 series with RHEL 6.4 the current the price for a single desktop install ( if you need to ask the STD 1 year for $299 is likely what you need ) https://www.redhat.com/apps/store/desktop/ and the SERVER price !!! https://www.redhat.com/apps/store/server/ ( $349/YEAR to over $3240/YEAR ) or install one of the free rebuilds of red hat CentOS 6.4 http://centos.org/ ScientificLinux 6.3 ( soon to be 6.4) https://www.scientificlinux.org/ But be aware that rhel/cent/ and sl are "Server" class operating systems They are not the best choice for home desktop use They also assume that the person using these distros HAS a lot of linux experience -- this is reflected in the lack of documentation -- they all point to the red hat docs https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/...erprise_Linux/ for home use and for a "new to Linux" person a lot of people like "Limux Mint 14 " http://www.linuxmint.com/index.php they seam to do a good job at making things easy for new users in contrast in RHEL most things need to be manually set up in config files and from the terminal |
